Marriage is a blessed and significant milestone in Islam. The Islamic Center of Kansas is honored to assist couples in solemnizing their union according to Islamic tradition and Kansas state law. To ensure a smooth and respectful process, please follow the steps below.
Steps to Get Married at Islamic Center of Kansas
- Obtain a marriage license from your local state or county courthouse. The masjid cannot conduct any marriage ceremony without a valid court license.
- Fill out our Nikah Request Form at least two weeks before your desired ceremony date.
- Prepare and bring the following on the day of your appointment:
- State’s marriage license (original).
- Valid and Original photo IDs for both bride and groom (State ID, Driver’s License or valid Passport).
- Two Muslim witnesses (male).
- The bride’s Wali (guardian), usually her father, brother, or a close male relative.
- Submit copies of all IDs and court license to the mosque office at least one week before the scheduled date.
- Agree on the mahr (marital gift) in consultation with the imam or officiant.
- On the day, arrive at least 15 minutes early to review documents, confirm witnesses, and finalize arrangements.
- The Nikah ceremony will include:
- Qur’an recitation and short sermon (khutbah).
- Declaration of intent and consent (ijab and qubul).
- Public affirmation of the agreed mahr.
- Signing of the Nikah contract with witnesses.
- Dua (supplication) for the couple’s future.
- After the ceremony, receive your signed Nikah certificate and original court license.
- ICK does not charge a fee for Nikah services, however a donation to the masjid can be made
Key Policies
- Only marriages with a valid state marriage license will be conducted at the masjid.
- All participants must comply with Islamic requirements regarding consent, witnesses, and Wali.
- The masjid reserves the right to approve or deny ceremony requests based on compliance with Islamic and organizational guidelines.
